When VenueGen's founder David Gardner told me that they had set up a casual corner café for a large company's job interviews in world, I was floored. What a fascinating prospect of bringing my own cappuccino to a virtual Starbucks?
I knew that some HR departments use VenueGen 3D meetings to gather staff and explain the latest in 401K plans or medical insurance, but I never envisioned a job interview in the virtual world.
I checked the list of Job Interviewing Do's and Don'ts and, oddly enough, most of the ‘Do's and Don'ts' apply equally to a 3D internet meeting.

Picture yourself in the virtual café, as a savvy prospective addition to the company's staff. Your 3D eye contact, facial expressions, and gesticulations, are relaxed and confident (you even remembered to show up in time!). When your interviewer looks you straight in the eyes, and invites you to meet the boss on the online sailboat setting, then you know you're on the way from virtual to real success!
VenueGen [www.venuegen.com] is a browser-based 3D Internet meeting product, using a simple browser plug in- where business colleagues meet, collaborate, share and present information in board rooms, training rooms, and meeting halls. It is my first B2B client that is truly fun. Users simply select a meeting room, upload their content, and instantly enter into a virtual room. Using the directional voice technology, users immediately hear and locate their colleagues around the room!
Engaged, active and immersed attendees communicate directly, make decisions more efficiently, learn faster, and are more productive than with any online alternative to VenueGen. The days of the boring audio and web based conference calls, expensive travel arrangements, and complex videoconference systems are over. VenueGen is still in closed beta, but quite a few enterprises and businesses are running pilots to see how they can cut travel costs and boost productivity.
I especially like that I don't get the conference call burnout with VenueGen. After a couple of hours of conventional conference calls my ears are ringing and my acute audio call fatigue sets in. VenueGen eliminates the ringing and provides the entertaining visual stimulus I need. I can focus on who is talking and feel immersed and engaged in the meeting.
My clients are scattered all over the world, from the East coast to Europe and Asia. While most of us have never met in person, working together in VenueGen gives us the feeling that we're actually hanging out together! I have never been a fan of Second Life (I just could not figure out its value), but I feel very differently about VenueGen. It has allowed me to drastically cut down on travel time and expense and boost the productivity of my business meetings. I love that it's clean and green and for busy mom's telecommuting on steroids, preserves the planet for my progeny.
So here's how it works: I first create an avatar using my personal mug shot, and then call a meeting in VenueGen. I connect with my colleagues' photo-realistic, bright eyed and bushy tailed 3D persona for a team meeting in the boardroom. For many of our agency meetings VenueGen has completely replaced audio conferences, video conferences, webex, and gotomeeting.
VenueGen is created by The Venue Network, Inc. (TVN) based in Research Triangle Park, NC. To view a VenueGen demo, please visit http://www.venuegen.com.
